OBJETIVES
The Pablo Iglesias Institute aims to promote and disseminate values and democratic culture, the institutional strengthening of political parties, democratic governance, and partnerships with progressive parties with regard to the reform of the state.
These objectives are pursued through seminars, conferences, meetings and exchange of public politics experiences, and the study of "good practices" as well as the analysis and debate on issues relating to our counterpart’s national and international political agenda.
PROJECTS
The Institute develops its activities around different political spheres:
- Institutional Strengthening and Democratic Governance.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has identified governance as one of the principal priorities of their work in favor of human development. To help improve the quality of democracy and its institutions as well as to collaborate with political and social figures represents a very significant contribution to the development of this agenda.
- Promotion of democratic values and citizenship-building.
The perspective given by the UNDP report, “The Democracy of citizenship: An agenda for the construction of citizenship in Latin America”, intends to contribute to the deepening of democracy, surpassing the so-called electoral democracies, to inclusive democracies, extending to citizenship, civil, political and social rights.
- Reform of the State
The Institute collaborates with its counterparts in the exchange of experiences and organization of seminars on issues relating to reforms of the Party System, Electoral System, Fiscal Policy, Public Administration and Civil Service, Parliamentary and Judicial Strengthening, as well as Public Health, Education, Social Security, and Safety Policy among still more. The Institute has also collaborated in completing advisory duties in the process of decentralization.
- Strengthening of Political Parties
The strengthening of political parties as basic pillars of the democratic system, its institutionalization, namely its stability, territorial implementation and permanence in time, is one of the top priorities for action and collaboration for the Pablo Iglesias Institute and its counterparts.
- Municipal Governance
Cooperation for the strengthening of local governments is one of the principal areas of action for the Institute, designed primarily to: provide reference points and "good practices" for the development of social policy, reflect upon key urban policy from the point of view of sustainability, gender and human development, understanding the impacts of globalization on our cities and our citizens’ lifestyle, to make known the potential of the information and communication society (ICT and e-governance), develop personal leadership for the purpose of political service, familiarization of the analysis techniques of central figures in negotiation, conflict resolution, and consensus building, improve personal communication skills, and make progress on a strategic and global vision.
- Analysis and discussion
The Institute carries out a close monitoring of the political, economic and social phenomena as well as regional integration processes in Latin America and Africa through the regular gathering of leaders and political analysts. The analysis and discussion of all these phenomena and the relations that these regions have with Spain and Europe allow for a larger and better understanding of the realities of each one of the continents and, therefore, constitutes an essential contribution to the mutual knowledge and more fluid collaboration
