  • Juan Fernando López Aguilar Politics Area

    Juan Fernando López Aguilar was the Minister of Justice in the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero from April 18, 2004 to February 12, 2007. In October 2007, he was named General Secretary of the PSC-PSOE.

    On October 28 2006, he was officially appointed to be the candidate of the PSOE for the presidency of the Canary Islands for the autonomous elections in 2007. His candidacy won the most votes and got the highest number of representatives to the Parliament of the Canary Islands (26 out of 60) but, through an agreement between Coalición Canaria (19 MPs) and Partido Popular (15 MPs), he was ousted from the regional presidency.

    On July 2, 2008, he was appointed to lead the list of the PSOE during the European elections of June 2009. He won 21 seats and is currently the spokesperson of the PSOE in the European Parliament. 

  • Álvaro Cuesta Politics Area

    Álvaro Cuesta holds a degree in Law from the University of Oviedo and is a practicing lawyer.  He has been a member of the Parliament for Asturias since 1982 and is the President of the Parliamentary Commission for Justice.

    As a legislator, he has sponsored several bills of law, among which the following are noteworthy: Lawsuit law, Law on Criminal Liability of Children Under Age, Statute of Autonomy of Asturias, Penal Code, Jury Law, Law on Incompatibilities of High Ranking Officials, Reform of the Law on Limited Liability Companies, Law on Local Financing and Law on the Modernization of the Local Government. 

  • Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón Politcs Area

    Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón is Member of the Parliament for Madrid. He holds a degree in Economics from the Complutense University. Master’s Degree in European Economics from Université Libre de Bruxelles.

    He serves as an Advisor to the European Parliament and Head of the Office of the High Representative of the United Nations in Bosnia. He is Professor of Spanish and World Economics at Camilla José Celia University, and was a Madrid City Councilmember during the 2003-2007 and 2007-2009 legislatures.
