The IDEAS Foundation energetically condemns the cruel assassination of the French co-operator, Michel Germaneau, kidnapped by the Maghreb arm of Al Qaeda on April 19^th. The IDEAS Foundation also demands the immediate liberation of the two Spanish co-operators who remain detained.

IDEAS wishes to express its condolences and solidarity to the family and friends of the French co-operator and to the French people, as well as insisting that diplomatic pressure, international cooperation and working with the regional authorities are the best way of stabilizing the zone of Sahel and putting an end to terrorist attacks.

The IDEAS Foundation requests that the Spanish government continue working discretely, but firmly to achieve the liberation of the two kidnapped Spanish co-operators, Albert Vilalta and Roque Pascual.
