Chaired from the beginning by former Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and , since April 2012 by the Secretary General of the PSOE, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, as provided by the statutes of the IDEAS Foundation, the IDEAS has grown to become a think tank, at national as well as international level and focuses its action line on a diversity of fields such as equality, economy, politics, rights, ecology, sustainability, training and solidarity based on significant qualitative and quantitative research presented in a great number of reports and papers as well as the organization of seminars, conferences and training courses.
In this way, we must note the Global Progress international initiative which, through the Global Progress, Latin American Progress and the African Progress conferences and meetings, has brought together progressive leaders like Bill Clinton, Gordon Brown, Lula Da Silva, F. Hollande, Felipe González, Carolina Tohá, Hermes Binner, Meles Zenawi, Pedro Pires, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, with the object of strengthening networks and favouring alliances among politicians, thinkers and progressive strategists worldwide and identify and promote the central principles of a shared progressive agenda for a new economic and social paradigm.
At national level, the IDEAS Foundation also leads the Network of Progressive Foundations. Since
January 1, 2010, the IDEAS Foundation has broadened its purposes and competences with the integration of:
• PABLO IGLESIAS INSTITUTE: Designs, promotes ad executes international cooperation programs aimed at strengthening institutions worldwide with special focus on priority areas for Spain like Latin America and Africa. It promotes and disseminates values and democratic culture, the strengthening of institutions and political parties and democratic governance.
• RAMÓN RUBIAL INSTITUTE: Focuses its activities in the promotion and defense of the rights of Spaniards living abroad as well as foreign citizens living in Spain, by promoting full integration. Its actions are inspired by the fundamental values of freedom, the promotion of democracy, the defense of human rights, the construction of solidarity and humanist spirit.
• JAIME VERA INSTITUTE: Progressive training center which aim is to provide socialist groupings, area CEF and other entities with corporate training as well as higher education in collaboration with other universities.
• GLOBAL PROGRESS COUNCIL: Progressive political leaders and thinkers like o Felipe González, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, Helen Clark, Thabo Mbeki, Michel Bachelet and Javier Solana led by former Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, make up an advisory strategic organ of the IDEAS Foundation for international issues.
